Malawi Olympic Committee is expected to hold an elective annual general meeting on February 17 in Lilongwe but key figures are keeping cards close to the chest about their candidature.
According to an advert which Moc placed in weekend papers, nominations for candidates will close on February 2.
“”Notice is hereby given of the 52nd Annual General Meeting and Elections of the Malawi Olympic Committee to be held on Saturday, 17th February 2024, at 09:00 hours at Sunbird Lilongwe Hotel in Lilongwe,” the advert reads.
Agenda items will include roll call, adoption of the agenda, adoption of 2023 annual general meeting minutes, matters arising from minutes, president’s report, secretary general’s report, treasurer’s report and elections of the executive board.
All executive positions, including those of president, vice president, secretary general, vice secretary general treasurer and two executive members, are up for grabs.

Meanwhile, top Moc officials did not come out of the cocoon on their candidature.
The body’s president Jappie Mhango, secretary general John Kaputa (captain-retired) and treasurer general Henry Sakala are yet to decide on what to do.
Mhango said he would speak at an appropriate time.
“It is too early for me to comment. I will come out at an appropriate time,” the former Volleyball Association of Malawi president said.

On his part, Kaputa said he was still consulting.
“I will revert to you when I am done. At the moment, I cannot say anything,” he said.
Former Flames defender Ojukwu Malunga said the committee should be rated according to its achievements in the last four years.
“We should look at things they have achieved and, then, we can judge them. Otherwise, the onus of preparing athletes for international games such as Olympics and Commonwealth Games rests on associations while Moc facilitates logistics such as travel for the delegation,” he said.
