Zembani Band’s concert at St Thomas Square in Chikwawa on New Year’s Eve offered a platform for people in the Lower Shire district to pay tribute to fallen iconic musician Soldier Lucius Banda.
Led by his son Johnny Zembani, the concert dubbed Shutdown 2025 drew a massive audience that relished Lucius’ music and at the same time celebrated his legacy.
Clad in white attire, Johnny sang like his father rekindling memories of his exploits attracting a delirium of cheers from the audience.
Another special moment came when Johnny, who served a number of songs off his father’s albums, dished out ‘Mzimu Wa Soldier’, a track that sent the audience into frenzy.

The gig while offering a chance for people to celebrate the festive season to the maximum and welcome the New Year, also turned out to be a celebration of Lucius, who is also the founder of Zembani Band.
Other Lucius’ songs that people enjoyed during the concert that spilled over to the New Year included ‘Tina’, ‘Nthawi’, ‘Esther’, ‘Tsiku Lobwera Yesu’ and ‘Samuel’.
One patron Alick Phiri said the show created an unforgettable night of music and a timely tribute to Lucius Banda.
“His legacy lives on and his son Johnny is doing well. We hope we will have more of these moments,” Phiri said.
