Five choirs set the tone for Christmas when they served Christmas carols during a competition held at Heritage Hotel in Blantyre on Saturday.
Organised by Globe Internet, the competition, which has been running annually during the festive season, lived up to its billing, with the choirs putting out good performances to win the hearts of judges.
Each choir was given a chance to perform two Christmas songs.
But at the end of its all, Mpachika CCAP Youth Fellowship Choir came out top and received a cash prize of K354,000 followed by St Paul’s Choir from St Mary’s Namame Church, which received K279,000 with Mount Olive CCAP Choir on third position and collecting K204,000.
“Glory be to God for this success; we are excited. It was not a competition so to say but a gathering for choirs to sing Christmas carols and we all delivered but there had to be one winner,” the group’s chairperson Lomson Liwonde said.

He hailed Globe Internet for inviting them to participate in the competition this year.
“The platform also gave us a chance to prepare for Christmas, which falls on December 25, and warm up for the celebration of the birth of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ,” Liwonde said.
Following their victory, the choir was offered another opportunity to entertain the gathering, which included a team from Globe Internet, as they went on to perform their winning song.
Allan Seyani from Globe Internet, who was also part of the judging panel, hailed the choirs for showing up for the competition.

“We, as Globe Internet, host this competition every year during the festive season. This is part of networking with our customers and thanking them for supporting us. It is also part of bringing choirs together to celebrate the festive season,” Seyani said.
The judges based their scores on presentation, song selection and vocal ability, among other factors.
