Copyright Society of Malawi (Cosoma) has challenged creatives in the country to submit proposals to tap into the Copyright Fund, as the fourth call is set to open.
Fund Manager Blessings Botha said yesterday that creatives from both urban and rural areas, rightsholder associations and cultural heritage organisations need to apply to benefit from the Copyright Fund.
He said they will launch the fourth call on April 12 2024, the same day the fund will be announcing third call projects winners.
“We are excited that many creatives are participating and they are coming from different artistic disciplines across the country but we still need more. This is a fund for them and it is all about equipping them to advance in their artistry and help in generating forex for the country,” Botha said.
He said to ensure the success of their application, it is essential for creatives to familiarise themselves with Copyright Fund guidelines.

“The fourth call, just like the previous calls we have made since the Copyright Fund came into effect, provides individuals and organisations involved in creative and cultural industries with the opportunity to receive financial support for their projects,” the fund manager said.
Botha said the fund also encourages proposals that demonstrate a commitment to preserve and promote Malawian arts and cultural heritage.
He said the operationalisation of the fund is in line with pillar number three, enabler five, of the Malawi National Transformation Agenda 2063.
“The fund has set aside K100 million,” Botha said.
