The Lilongwe First Grade Magistrate Court has denied bail to former State House deputy chief of staff Godfrey Arthur Jalale, who is being accused of stealing four dogs at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.
First Grade Magistrate Robert Botha delivered the bail ruling at the court Wednesday.
Jalale applied for bail on Tuesday.
Court documents indicate that Jalale— through his lawyer Khwima Mchizi—argued that the State failed to demonstrate why the accused should continue to be remanded in custody while investigations continue.

However, the State objected to the bail application.
In his ruling Wednesday, Botha granted the State the seven days it prayed for to conclude investigations but he indicated that the seven days were effective November 21, with the investigations set for conclusion by November 28.
In an interview, Mchizi said: “We respect the decision of the court.”
Police arrested Jalale last week.
