Local money transfer company, eKwacha Remit, has partnered an international remittances firm Remittances Hub which will see people sending and receiving money from different countries across the globe using these platforms.
The agreement is on a consumer to consumer basis which is also known as person to person, where a person can send money to another person.
Speaking in an interview, eKwacha Chief Executive Officer Douglas Msumbu said the partnership means that they will be able to reach out to many countries.
“I would like to thank the central bank for giving us approvals and I want to tell the Malawian market that here is an opportunity to send or receive money in a matter of a minutes and they should utilise it,” Msumbu said.
Remittances Hub Global Head of Sales and Business Development Amit Shrimali said the partnership means that a customer from Malawi can use eKwacha and be able to send money to over 100 countries and vice versa.

He touted their system as secure through latest technology and people’s money is safe all the time.
“Malawi is an interesting market which has not been explored and we are here to explore it and we will be moving with more innovations by partnering banks and other institutions so that we also provide services on business to business basis or consumer to business and vice versa,” he said.
eKwacha is a locally found firm which ventured into remittances business last year and has branches across the country.
