Fam Beach Soccer National Championship defending champions Beach Eagles will begin the chase of a fourth consecutive title as they line up against fellow Northern Region side Peninsula at Arnold Lakeshore Resort in Nkhotakota District Saturday.
The Nkhata Bay based Eagles are the team to beat, having won the competition three times in a row.
A draw that Football Association of Malawi (Fam) conducted on Tuesday at Mpira Village in Blantyre saw Eagles and Peninsula of Karonga District joining Nkhotakota’s Vinthenga in Group A, while another Nkhotakota side, Rank FC, was drawn against Nkopola of Mangochi District and Salima District’s Umodzi.
Group action starts at 9am Saturday with six matches on the menu. Rank and Nkopola will lock horns in the opening match, with Eagles wrapping up the day.
The top two teams from each group will automatically qualify for the semifinals to be played on Sunday.

Winners of the semifinals will proceed to the final with the losers fighting for third place.
Fam Competitions and Club Licensing Manager Clement Kafwafwa said the competition will help the national beach soccer team to select players for international competitions.
“The teams have assured us that they are ready for this great competition and we expect the best. This competition will help us with players that will represent the country during the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. So this is the right platform for our players to grow and develop into international stars,” Kafwafwa said.
