Top-flight league rookies Ekhaya have rejected an offer for Malawi National Football Team left back Alick Lungu, saying it is on the lower side.
Ekhaya Chief Executive Officer Thando Mhango confirmed the development.
“It is true that we, as Ekhaya, have rejected the final offer of $30,000 from Zesco FC for Alick Lungu. The players’ release clause in the contract should not be the only factor but, rather, a starting point for negotiations.
“However, the figures they are proposing are ridiculously low,” Mhango said.
It is reported that Lungu’s release clause is at K100 million and the Zambian side did not trigger this.

The deal’s blocker, Haroon Kassim, regretted the failed discussions, saying Ekhaya lacked understanding.
“It is very disappointing that they have pulled out of the deal.
My colleagues offered $30,000 dollars and that is a lot [of money] for a defender.
“And, considering the fact that they play in the Caf Champions League, it [the move] could have given the player some exposure. Zesco wanted to put a clause of future on-sale so that Ekhaya could cash in in the future,” he said.

Football analyst Parry Chinyama hailed Ekhaya’s decision.
“Malawi football administrators have woken up from a deep slumber. Clubs are investing a lot of money in players. Therefore, it is only prudent to recover these when players are being sold to other clubs regardless of where they are going. I want to applaud these football administrators for putting their foot down on offers that are below the valued standard,” Chinyama said.
Lungu signed for Ekhaya after leaving FCB Nyasa Big Bullets following contractual disagreements towards the end of his contract.
