STILL AT THE HELM—Gubuduza

The mist surrounding Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) President Vitumbiko Mwandemange – Gubuduza has been cleared, with the association insisting that she did not resign.

Reports that Gubuduza had resigned nearly threw the sport into turmoil after the Malawi National Council of Sports reportedly told the association to iron out issues.

Nam General Secretary Yamikani Khungwa- Kauma said following the statement they released on November 21, 2025— concerning leadership matters within the organisation—there was no official communication indicating that Gubuduza had resigned.

“We, as Nam, wish to clarify that there is no official communication or update regarding any changes to its leadership structure.

“The president, the entire Executive Committee (EXCO), and the secretariat remain fully in office. The current leadership is steadfast in its commitment to the association’s strategic objectives, particularly the rebuilding and development of netball in Malawi, as well as enhancing the performance of the national team, the Malawi Queens,” Khungwa-Kauma said.

She said Nam appreciated the continued support of stakeholders, partners and the netball community, and that it remained focused on delivering positive outcomes for the sport.

Recently, Gubuduza said she was still with Nam and that the association would release a statement regarding the matter in due course.

Reports that Gubuduza had resigned were rife prior to the Africa Netball Cup, which the country hosted in December.

Sources indicated that Gubuduza rescinded her decision after she was persuaded by stakeholders, including sponsors and players.
