Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has set the tone for the $500,000 (about K800 million) rehabilitation of Nsanje Stadium to start, with the signing of a contract with Blithe Construction.
The development comes in the wake of resolutions made by Fam’s executive committee meeting which agreed that works should roll out this month.
Fam president Fleetwood Haiya said the targeted completion date for the whole scope of works August 16.
“I have indeed formally signed the contract with the contractor to roll out the project. This infrastructure project remains one of the key projects that will enhance our grip and effort to transform Malawi football.

“The targeted completion date for the whole scope of works is 16 August 2024. The project is a window to communities affected with cyclones and floods in Nsanje district that will provide a platform for scouting raw talent for our football to develop,” Haiya wrote on his Facebook page.
Meanwhile, Fam has resolved that it will rehabilitate Chilomoni Stadium in Blantyre using Fifa Forward 2.0 funds.
The resolution was made during the association’s executive committee second quarterly meeting in Salima District last week.
The facility is currently in a dilapidated state and has not hosted a TNM Super League match for close to a decade now.

However, Fam could not disclose how much has been allocated to the project or when rehabilitation works would start at the facility.
Fam had handed the facility over to Super League of Malawi (Sulom) in 2019.
At that time, Sulom wanted to renovate it so that it starts hosting top flight matches but this was not implemented.
Thereafter, Sulom entered into a failed agreement with Mighty Mukuru Wanderers to take over the facility.
The stadium last hosted a Super League match seven years ago after Surestream Academy, who were leasing it, handed it back to Fam.
But since then, the facility has been in a state of disrepair.
Football administrator George Kaudza-Masina welcomed Fam’s decision.
’’Fam is walking the talk. It is high time the stadium was renovated. This stadium is located at good place and has great potential to be a money spinner once put to good use,’’ Kaudza-Masina said.
