Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has disclosed that the inspection of Mzuzu and Chitipa stadiums will not take long as stakeholders are working together.
Mzuzu City Council Public Relations Officer Macdonald Gondwe and Fam Club Licensing and Compliance Manager Clement Kafwafwa confirmed linking up on the matter.
Gondwe said the council has completed rehabilitation of the facility and is working on logistical arrangements for Fam to inspect it.
“We have asked Fam to come and inspect the facility after completing maintenance works. I am therefore very optimistic that football will be back in Mzuzu soon,” he said
Kafwafwa said inspecting Mzuzu Stadium will not take them long as the exercise was initially set for this week.

He said they have also been advised that construction of Chitipa Ground has been completed.
“This means that it is not only Mzuzu Stadium that needs inspection. Chitipa District Council also advised Fam about the completion of Chitipa Stadium. We were supposed to travel to the North this week but we are still working on logistics.
“We will carry out this exercise but I cannot give you the exact date. We are working hand-in-hand with the two councils on the matter and hopefully football will be played soon at these match venues,” Kafwafwa said.
At the start of the season, TNM Super League side Chitipa United had proposed Chitipa Ground as its home but failure to meet Fam requirements during the first inspection resulted into the team continuing to play home matches at Karonga Ground.

Mzuzu-based sides Moyale and Mzuzu City Hammers are also playing their matches at Rumphi Ground after Mzuzu Stadium’s pitch condition deteriorated following its hosting of two big public events.
