A good dancer knows when to leave the stage. FCB Nyasa Big Bullets defender Yamikani Fodya has retired from active football after spending 13 years as player at the club.
Fodya announced his retirement immediately after his side completed a quadruple of trophies following the 2-1 win over Mafco in the Airtel Top 8 Cup at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre on Saturday.
He retires at the age of 34 as one of the most decorated footballers in domestic football. Fodya, who comes from Balaka District, said it was an honour to play for The People’s Team.
“I am leaving the club as a legend. I came here as a boy but the club gave me everything any player can ask for,” Fodya told journalists in Blantyre.
Popularly known as Head Master in the football circles, Fodya made his debut for Bullets in a 2-0 victory over Blue Eagles at Kamuzu Stadium in 2009. Since then, he was an influential player for Bullets and won every trophy in domestic football.

Fodya said he retired from active football to give young players a chance.
‘My body cannot not cope. We have many young players coming in to train with us. This is the time for me to go,” he said.
He also paid tribute to Zimbabwean mentor Kalisto Pasuwa for giving him a good platform to showcase his skills.
Bullets Chief Administration Officer Albert Chigoga said Fodya served the club well.

“He showed meticulous leadership during his playing time; leading by example among the young members of the team. We will miss his humour, loyalty and passion,” he said.
The left-footed defender finished his career in style as he helped Bullets to retain the TNM Super League for five consecutive years, defended the FDH Bank Cup, won the inaugural K320 million Ibongetse Castel Challenge Cup and the Airtel Top 8
