FDH Bank plc has said it will no longer continue sponsoring its annual cup to focus on the FDH Bank Premiership.
This comes after the bank unveiled a K5 billion five-year sponsorship package for the FDH Bank Premiership.
The event took place at Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre on Wednesday.
Speaking at the event, FDH Bank Managing Director Noel Mkulichi said their focus would be on the FDH Bank Premiership.
“We will do away with the FDH Bank Cup. We have already informed Fam [Football Association of Malawi] that we are now concentrating on the FDH Bank Premiership,” he said.

Mkulichi was quick to say sponsorship packages for the Malawi National Football Team, the Flames, and the FDH Bank Netball Premiership were intact.
“We are continuing with everything to do with the Flames and the FDH Bank Netball Premiership because we want to develop sports,” Mkulichi said.
Following the development, Fam will now have two cups, namely the Airtel Top 8 and the Castel Challenge Cup.
Fam Competitions and Communications Director Gomezgani Zakazaka was not readily available for his comment yesterday.

FDH Bank started sponsoring the annual tournament in 2021. Then, the sponsorship package was pegged at K120 million per year.
In 2023, the bank increased the sponsorship package to K150 million.
The bank again raised the sponsorship package to K250 million last year.
Silver Strikers and FCB Nyasa Big Bullets have won the cup twice each.
Silver were the inaugural winners in 2021, before winning it again last year, whereas Bullets won it back-to-back in 2022 and 2023.
Blue Eagles won the 2024 edition.
Silver were the last winners after beating Mighty Wanderers 5-4 on post-match penalties after 1-1 stalemate at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
