Action in the country’s top flight league, the FDH Bank Premiership, is set to roll off this weekend with eight matches on the menu.
Super League of Malawi (Sulom) and FDH Bank plc have said everything is set for the big party to begin.
Sulom General Secretary Williams Banda said the bank has set the stage by disbursing the first chunk of clubs’ subversion, worth K160 million.
Banda said National Referees Association has also been paid K120 million to cover officiating fees for all 240 matches.
“This gives us the confidence that we will have a grand season,” he said.

Banda has since urged clubs to adhere to rules and protocols that the league governing body signed with FDH Bank plc.
“We are very grateful to FDH Bank for the sponsorship and we will jealously guard it by making sure that all teams in the league adhere to the rules and regulations for the good of the game. We have also been in touch with our referees and we have reminded them about the need to use all 21 laws of the game.
“We are aware that the laws have changed and we expect the referees to do the needful in ensuring that our players and officials are aware of whatever is expected of them. More importantly, we would like to urge supporters to patronise all games as they have always done in the past,” he said.
FDH Bank plc Marketing Manager Ronald Chimchere said they have lined up several activities to spice up the kick-off match between Mighty Wanderers and Karonga United at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

Chimchere said they expect a colourful season launch which will be spiced up with a parade through the commercial city.
“We are doing everything in line with the theme of the league which is Wayishosha. We are more than ready to set the ball rolling and provide the long-anticipated excitement to soccer lovers. We are delighted to return to the game with a bang as the 2026 season kicks off.
“We want the football fraternity to appreciate that we have come to change the landscape as far as football sponsorship is concerned. We have put in place the required arrangements for all football pitches that will be hosting our matches this season to wear new faces. So we are looking forward to a grand season,” he said.
Meanwhile, Karonga United technical director Alufeyo Chipanga has sent a shot of warning to Wanderers ahead of tomorrow’s crunching tie.
“Wanderers should not expect any acts of mercy or kindness when we meet them. We arrived in Blantyre on Wednesday night to acclimatise for this match. We are in Blantyre for a mission. Yes Wanderers beat [FCB Nyasa Big] Bullets last weekend in the Charity Shield but we are not intimidated.
“We are giants of the North and Wanderers are giants of the South. We have beaten them before on several occasions, so we know how best to approach this match. All that we want this season is to win the premiership,” Chipanga said.
Karonga will be hoping for a repeat of their 2025 Airtel Top 8 performance which saw them edge the Nomads 2-1.
In another crunching tie, Bullets, who finished second in the 2025 season, travel to Lilongwe to play Civil Service United at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.
Other matches scheduled for tomorrow are between Kamuzu Barracks and Silver Strikers at Champion Stadium in Mponela, Dowa District, while Moyale will host Goshen City Dedza Dynamos at Rumphi Stadium.
