German-bound youngster Mwisho Mhango gave his new side, Hannover 96, a glimpse of his quality when he inspired the Malawi Boys Under-20 National Football Team to a winning start to this year’s African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Games in Windhoek, Namibia.

Mhango scored a goal in each half to help the junior Flames beat their Zimbabwe counterparts 2-1 at Hage Geingob Stadium Friday.

He opened the scoring in the 25th minute as he connected a well taken cross from Misheck Billiat.

The goal stirred Zimbabwe to search for an equaliser as they launched a series of attacks.

Eventually, Zimbabwe levelled matters through Tadiwa Chakuchichi in the 57th minute but Mwisho, who was named player of the match, restored Malawi’s lead in the 72nd minute.

Malawi Boys Under-20 Coach Millias Jegwe Pofera hailed his charges for the effort and promised to take each game as it comes.

“I told my boys to keep possession and caught them on the counter attack and to play without any pressure,” Pofera said.

On his part, two-goal hero— Mhango—said he was excited with the winning start and his exploits.

“I want to thank my colleagues for their teamwork. on my own, I would not have achieved this today. I am hoping for better performances in the next games,” Mhango said.
