US-based Scorchers striker Temwa Chawinga has been named in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) team for June.
This follows her impressive performance for Kansas City Current in June having scored two goals and registered one assist.
This is her third recognition this season.
“Garnering NWSL Best XI praise for the third time this season is Chawinga, who was also tabbed to the team in March and May. This is the eighth such honour of her career, which is now tied for fourth all-time,” Kansas website reported.
Temwa was included in the team of the month alongside her teammates goalkeeper Lorena and defender Kayla Sharples.

“Kansas City’s three recipients are the most of any team in June, as has been the case every month this season.
The Current has garnered a league leading 13 Best XI selections between March, April, May and June. No other club in NWSL history has had more players recognised on the Best XI team in the first four months of the season,” reads the website.
Temwa has already won two player of the month awards for March and May this season.
“I am excited that everything is going on well. I am really enjoying playing for the team,” she said.

The Malawian last season smashed several records in the NWSL in her debut season.
Temwa etched her name in the history of NWSL when she won the golden boot award with 20 goals in her debut season. She became the first female player to achieve that feat.
In addition, she was named as the most valuable player (MVP) last season.
Currently, Kansas are top of the log table with 30 points from 10 matches.
