German International Corporation (GIZ)—the main German development agency—has reaffirmed its commitment to creating a platform for building linkages with institutions for youths to contribute towards addressing unemployment levels.
GIZ adviser for Skills Development for GIZ EYA and A-TVET Youth Empowerment Project Akim Kress said this on Wednesday.
Kress said Gopa-AFC under GIZ project has been working with selected community skills development centres in developing prerequisite skills for youth employment in Malawi.
“Building on the same, we are helping the CSDCs to organise a Job and Business Fair which aims at creating a platform for building linkages with different institutions for the youths, where institutions will showcase different opportunities that exist in their organisations.

“These opportunities could be in terms of training, financing, job, or internship placements,” he said.
The organisation hosted a ‘Job and Business Fair’ agro-food processing under the informal sector, targeting rural youths.
Assistant Registrar for Vocational Training in the Ministry of Labour Innocent Rajab said they are excited to see learners graduate in different trades that would enable them to establish businesses or be employed in the food sector.
Rajab said the agro-food production sector is crucial as people cannot go around without it in a community.

“We need this course in all our technical colleges,” he said.
He said the ministry is doing all it can so that each community can have a technical college.
“We want every young Malawian to be reached with technical skills to be standalone and self-reliant,” he added.
The Job and Business Fair, which started on Monday and wound up on Wednesday, was held under the theme. ‘Empowering youths, connecting skills with opportunities.’
