The Ministry of Homeland Security says it has secured 330 hectares of land on which it will construct a refugee camp in the Northern Region.
“The land is in Chitipa District, in Nyilikizi Village to be precise,” Homeland Security Minister Ken Zikhale Ng’oma told The Daily Times.
He said ministry officials have been engaging traditional leaders on the importance of having a refugee camp in the district.
“To that effect, there have been exchange visits,” he said.

Meanwhile, Centre for Human Rights and Rehabilitation Executive Director Michael Kaiyatsa has welcomed the development.
“We, however, ask the government to stop the refugees relocation exercise until structures have been constructed at the new camp,” he said.
