South Africa-based Malawian pugilist Isaac Chilemba has budgeted K315 million for his first professional fight on home soil.
Nicknamed ‘Golden Boy’, Chilemba is set to face undefeated Nigerian Mathew ‘Wiseman’ Obinna in a 12-round Universal Boxing Organisation Light-heavyweight belt on September 2 in Lilongwe.
Chilemba said he was working hard to make his dream a reality.
“I cannot wait to fight at home.
This is where I started boxing as an amateur. We plan to hold 10 bouts during the bill which will be organised by Chilemba Boxing Promotions.
“The tournament is rounded at $300,000 [about K315 million]. I am currently looking for sponsors,” he said.
The Malawian, 25, trekked to South Africa in 2005 and his record is at 27 wins including 11 knockouts, nine defeats and three draws.
Obinna, 35, has an outstanding perfect record after registering straight 21 knockouts.
Chilemba’s career spans over two decades and is probably Malawi’s biggest boxing star to have emerged after Drake Thadzi, who settled in Canada in the late 1980s.
The Malawian has won international belts such as International Boxing Federation, World Boxing Association, World Boxing Organisation and Africa Boxing Union.
