Phalombe First Grade Magistrate Leonard Mtosa on Monday granted bail to well-known musician Joe Gwaladi.
In his ruling, Mtosa cautioned the ‘Tumbocid’ maker to desist from any form of assault or emotional abuse towards his wife, warning that the court would revoke bail if he breaches the condition.
As part of his bail conditions, Gwaladi has been instructed to provide two sureties each bonded at K200,000.
The self-taught musician was apprehended last week for allegedly assaulting and causing injury to his wife.
Phalombe Police Public Relations Officer Jimmy Kapanga said recently that on October 22 2023, Gwaladi left home for a drinking spree within the area and that he did not return home.
He said the following morning, Gwaladi returned home where he asked his wife to accompany him to the bar to continue drinking and that they both returned home while drunk during the night.
Upon arrival, the couple started quarrelling and later Gwaladi started hitting his wife with burnt bricks, injuring her on both arms, the forehead, with her left middle toe cut off.
The 35-year old artist, who comes from Namuthu Village in the Area of Traditional Authority Kaledzera in Phalombe, said in a video posted on social media recently, after some players visited him at Phalombe Police, that he had learned lessons and that he now “wants to sing for the Lord”.
The case has since been adjourned to Monday next week.
