Malawi National Netball Team shooter Joyce Mvula has announced her retirement from the sport, ending a career spanning over two decades.
The development came after she, earlier, indicated that she was taking a break from netball due to her pregnancy.
In a sudden twist of events, the Leeds Rhinos said her decision to retire had nothing to do with any other force but her own decision to concentrate on her new family.
“I have retired both on the local and international scene. Perhaps I [will] consider coaching in the next two years or so as I have acquired an England level 2 coaching licence. Besides that, I am a trained police officer and the future will tell,” she said.
The Blue Eagles Sisters’ product rose through the national teams’ ranks before leaving her mark at senior level.

Her international career took her to Manchester Thunder in the United Kingdom’s Superleague before joining Central Pulse in New Zealand.
She returned to England to play for Leeds.
However, her performance during the Africa Netball Cup in December was below her exceptional stands.
Meanwhile, Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) General Secretary Yamikani Khungwa-Kauma has said they regret the decision, saying they will miss the shooter.

“Joyce is one of the senior players for the Queens and many young players were looking up to her. Most up-and-coming players will miss her advice and expertise.
“However, we wish her the best as she takes the next step,” Khungwa-Kauma.
