Khulubvi Arts and Cultural Festival led by Nsanje communities, Nsanje District Council and Nyamithambo Palace returns for its second edition this weekend at Nsanje Prison Ground.
The two-day festival to feature several activities, starts tomorrow and ends on Sunday with a football match as well as other activities.
The first edition had some gaps but it showed potential and Nyamithambo Arts Palace proprietor Eric Trinta said Thursday that they were 100 percent ready for the second edition which is running under the theme ‘Revamping Education Standards in the Shire Valley and its Infrastructure is Possible’.
“This year we have done a mixture of artists from Nsanje and other artists. Apart from music, people will also experience comedy, theatre, poetry, acrobatics and traditional dances. This is an improvement from last year,” Trinta said.
He said the second edition promises thrills in that they had a lot of build-up activities citing Nsanje Education Day, Khulubvi Arts and Cultural Football Bonanza. Communities have now embraced the festival and they own it unlike last year when it was more of a surprise,” Trinta said.

He said as per the theme on education, they are expecting all Shire Valley population to take part in bringing glory to the dwindling education standards by helping in its rebuilding after Cyclone Freddy.
“We also encourage corporates to start supporting the creative industry as that is the only way of wealth creation to many in Malawi. It is high time we start supporting the hidden treasure for Malawi and that is the creative industry by starting at the grassroots,” Trinta said.
He said Farmers Organisation which is rebranding to AECI Limited has taken the courage to support quiz competition which will be contested by schools in the Shire Valley.
Some of the acts set to light the festival this year include Lucky Stars Band led by Boniface Ndamera, Mapale Band featuring veteran guitarists Collen Ali and Peter Likhomo, Nepman, Mellz, Katelele Ching’oma, Kefasi, Khathwa Aligiza, Jay Maga and Agorosso.
