Netball heavyweights Kukoma Diamonds have set an ambitious target of defending the Rainbow Paints Blantyre and Districts Netball League with a perfect record this season.
Last season, Diamonds retained the championship after winning 21 games and drawing once, but this time they aim to do it even better.
Diamonds Coach Noel Mussa said they have challenged themselves to finish the season with a 100 percent winning record.
“It is not that we are undermining our opponents but we like challenging ourselves. The idea is to perform better than before. We just want to finish the season with a clean slate,” Mussa said.
Currently, Diamonds top the table with 28 points having won all 14 games. Prison Queens are second with 24 points from 15 games while First Choice Tigresses are third with 22 points from 13 games.

So far, Tigresses are the highest-scoring team, having notched 921 baskets and conceded 355, resulting in a goal difference of 566.
The defending champions, who have played one game more, have a better goal difference of 608, having scored 908 baskets and conceded 300.
However, Mussa said he was not concerned about his team being second on the scoring chart.
“The good thing is that we have conceded the fewest goals and our basket difference is better. As for scoring fewer baskets compared with the third-placed Tigresses, it is understandable because we are rotating the squad quite often to give youngsters room for exposure,” he said.

Blantyre District Netball Committee General Secretary Annie Hanjahanja said this season was one of the toughest, with teams putting up spirited performances.
“We are excited about this battle because it shows that the standards of the league are improving,” she said.
