Malawi women’s football champions Kukoma Ntopwa have received a timely boost ahead the 2025 Caf Women’s Champions League/Cosafa qualifier after their sponsors, Capital Oil Refining Industries (Cori), topped up the team’s package with K10 million.
Ntopwa are expected to leave the country later this week for the tournament, which is scheduled for August 22 to 31 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Cori Sponsorship Coordinator Violet Kapolo said they decided to top up the package to motivate the team to do well at the regional showpiece.
“This is our obligation to ensure that the team is well motivated before the tournament. It is our wish to inspire the team to qualify and compete at continental level,” she said.
Kapolo advised the team to remain disciplined and continue flying Malawi’s flag high.

“They are carrying Malawi’s flag and, as such, we expect them to be exemplary as always and fight for the championship,” she said.
Ntopwa founder and technical director Isaac ‘Jomo’ Osman hailed the sponsors for the top-up.
“We are excited that they saw it fit to give us an additional amount to help us travel to South Africa. We are determined to perform better since we are Malawi’s ambassadors in the competition,” Osman said.
Meanwhile, Ntopwa will start their Caf Women’s Champions League campaign against South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns at UJ AW Muller Stadium on Friday August 22.

Group winners will advance to the semi-finals along with the best second-placed team.
During their debut in 2023, Ntopwa failed to register a win in three matches, having drawn with Lesotho Defence Force 1-1 before suffering a 1-0 loss to Zambia’s Green Buffaloes.
In their last group match, Ntopwa lost 4-0 to Botswana’s Double Action.
