Kungoni Centre of Culture and Art, which has been influential in promoting and preserving the country’s history and culture, has hit 50 years.
The 50th anniversary celebration starts tomorrow with the unveiling of a statue for the founder of Kungoni, Father Claude Boucher popularly known as Achisale.
Achisale died in 2024.
The climax of the celebration will be in August during the annual Open Day where Kungoni showcases traditional dances and a play.
Father Brendan Oshea also known as Angozo said Thursday that they have revised Kungoni’s logo reminding people that from 1976, Chiuta (The Large Rainbow) has been guiding and blessing “all our endeavours.”

“The rainbow is inverted emphasizing how much God has been present during this journey. It also carries many arrowheads representing God’s grace, which inspired Father Claude Boucher Chisale to begin what would become a lifelong work of dedication,” Father Oshea said.
He said the shield on the logo also reminds them of the need to defend the important values which we treasure in the country in our history and culture.
“Our theme for this year is ‘Kanthu ndi Khama’, this journey has required perseverance and conviction from many people,” Oshea said.
He acknowledged and thanked all those who have played a part in making Kungoni Centre of Culture and Art, a place of celebration and education.
