President Lazarus Chakwera has described his two international trips to United States of America and Kenya as successful.
Chakwera said this at the Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) on his arrival from the trip.
Chakwera during his stay in the United States, he managed to seal an agreement that will see commencement of the second compact grant of $350 million (about K612 billion) meant for transport and land administration sectors under the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).
“MCC second compact has now been put in force. The agreement that we had will see MCC team led by the Chief Executive Officer Alice Albright coming to Malawi soon.

“We asked them when they are starting financing the projects, they said: ‘When you are ready’. So this is exciting news, many road projects are expected to commence soon,” Chakwera said.
He added that the MCC will have a huge positive impact on many Malawians.
The compact is focusing on new road corridors targeting rural areas in Malawi to benefit smallholder farmers, who face a lot of challenges in accessing urban, regional and export markets.

While in Kenya, Chakwera said he held discussions with clean energy solution companies which showed interest to come and invest in Malawi.

“These folks want to come into the country to establish a plant so that they can help two million households with free clean cooking energy solutions such as stoves and create jobs for our young people just like they have done in Kenya and Nigeria. Better things are coming,” Chakwera said.
Chakwera left the country on May 3 for the United States of America to attend the US-Africa Business Summit which was held from May 6 to 7, 2024 in Dallas, Texas.
From Texas he proceeded to Kenya for the Africa Fertiliser and Soil Health (AFSH) Summit which took place on 9 May.
On arrival at KIA, Chakwera also held a Malawi Congress Party political rally where, among other things, he welcomed into the party a dancehall artist Chiyanjano Muheziwa popularly known as Anne Matumbi.
