President Lazarus Chakwera Monday hailed the continued support that the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) renders to Malawi.
Chakwera, who is also Malawi Red Cross patron, was speaking at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe during a meeting with visiting IFRC Secretary General Jagannath Chapagain.
Among others, the Malawi leader hailed IFRC for its swift response when Malawi was hit by natural disasters.
“When you work with Red Cross, you feel like you have a partner day and night. Red Cross is a source of hope for Malawians, especially in times of disaster,” Chakwera said.
Chapagain has since pledged his organisation’s continued support to Malawi.

He underscored the need to build community resilience and prepare when there is no crisis.
“By preparing, we save lives and livelihoods. Preparedness is, in financial terms, a lot cheaper. So investing in preparedness and resilience building is extremely important.
“As Red Cross, the principles and values are important to us. So we want to work together with the Malawi Red Cross Society, particularly among the youth, to inculcate the values and principles so that we can build a good citizenry in the country,” Chapagain said.
He arrived in the country on Sunday through Kamuzu International Airport and is expected to carry out a number of assignments before leaving tomorrow.
