A one-week music training targeting close to 30 artists spearheaded by Music Crossroads Malawi started yesterday at Springs Park in Mzuzu.
Music Crossroads Malawi Director Mathews Mfune said Monday that the training to end on February 23 2024, is expected to cover a number of topics.
“Today (Monday), the artists are working on songwriting and general understanding of the music landscape in Malawi and the trends. It is all about how one can make a successful musician and Tuesday (today) the artists have more music training and practice,” Mfune said.
He said they have roped in Musicians Union of Malawi Mzuzu chapter as a partner.
“As Music Crossroads Malawi, we want to expand our outreach to Mzuzu and the Northern Region in general so, we can help build a new generation of high quality and professional musicians from the North as well,” he said.

Mfune said they feel that there is very little happening in the Northern Region regarding arts and culture programmes.
“I think we can help sensitise and initiate such in order to balance the industry. We have Musicians Organisers Volunteer Exchange (Move) project participants as facilitators. They come from Norway, Brazil, Mozambique and Malawi,” Mfune said.
Other topics that the artists are expected to learn during the training include stage management, tax issues and copyright.
