Mulhakho wa Alhomwe former board chairperson Leston Mulli has evicted the group’s secretariat from his Celcom offices in Blantyre.
According to Mulli, he has evicted them after some people alleged that some members of the Mulhakho wa Alhomwe board had sold land meant for Lhomwe people at Peletia in Blantyre.
He alleged that the land was sold without his knowledge.
“I have, indeed, evicted them from my offices. I bought land for my Lhomwe people when I was the chairperson for Mulhakho wa Alhomwe. I am not happy,” Mulli said.
Mulhako wa Alhomwe Chief Executive Officer Pius Mvenya Jr confirmed being evicted from the offices.

“Yes, it’s true. But for reasons why Mr Mulli evicted us from the offices, he is better placed to give you that information because he is the owner [of the place,” Mvenya said.
He said they are now operating from their headquarters at Chonde, along the Limbe-Muloza Road, in Mulanje District.
“We have our offices there. That’s where we are operating from,” he said.
Mvenya could not share more information on the issue, saying he respects Mulli as one of his elders.

But according to internal sources, the Mulhako wa Alhomwe board resolved to sell the place due to debts that had accumulated to K183 million.
Mulli is also managing director for Mulli Brothers Limited.
Mulhako wa Alhomwe was established in 2007 by former president the late Bingu wa Mutharika.
Since then, the grouping has been holding annual festivals at Chonde headquarters in Mulanje District.
The Lhomwes are largely concentrated in Chiradzulu, Mulanje, Phalombe, Thyolo, and some parts of Blantyre and Zomba.
