After a one-year break due to elections last year, Likoma Island Festival (Life) returns in October this year.
Organisers said Wednesday that they were ready to give people a refreshed edition with experiences of Lake Malawi cruise, traditional dances, music, sports, sightseeing, food fest, island parade and tourism expo.
Life Director Patrick Ulele Chikoti said this year’s festival is themed ‘Life in Tourism, Arts and Culture’.
“Life’s impacts are diverse but key include continued visibility of arts and heritage of Likoma and Chizumula Islands, growing tourism and growth in the economy of the islands and surrounding areas,” Chikoti said.
He said since its inception, the festival, now in its sixth edition, has provided a platform for social cultural celebrations short-term financial gains for local businesses and networking opportunities.

“We, as a festival, are there to offer entertainment but we are also into disseminating important messages tackling issues such as environmental conservation,” Chikoti said.
He also said previous editions have been crucial in building the momentum while this year’s Life will be a turnaround festival.
“Let people start planning for the festival, which is unique in its own way. We will be announcing new developments as we move on but we are ready,” Chikoti said.
