The government has finally got contributions from creatives.
The contributions are expected to become part of the strategic plan for the implementation of National Arts and Heritage Council (Nahec).
The meetings started in the Southern Region, followed by the Northern Region and, lastly, the Central Region on Monday.
Malawi Writers Union (Mawu) President Shadreck Chikoti, who attended the Central Region consultative meeting, said they were happy to offer their input.
“Our desire is to see Nahec operationalised. It should be less talk and more action,” Chikoti said.

Poetry Association of Malawi Chairperson for Northern Region chapter Yona Mlakatuli Gondwe, who patronised the Northern Region meeting last Friday, also said they were looking forward to the implementation of Nahec.
“Once operational, Nahec, with its mandate to develop and promote the creative industry, will enable art and cultural heritage to flourish,” Gondwe said.
Youth, Sports and Culture Minister Alfred Gangata recently described creative and heritage industries as important.
The minister said the government recognises the role of the arts and culture in social cohesion, youth application and national development.

Gangata, who officially opened the consultative meeting for the Southern Region, assured creatives that the government would continue to promote arts and creative industries through infrastructure development, policy review and proper planning.
Director of Arts Humphrey Mpondaminga said Wednesday they were satisfied with the contributions from creatives.
“Their input will be reviewed and incorporated in the draft [that is] being developed by the consultant. After that, there will be an internal review session and, then, a validation meeting,” Mpondaminga said.
Nahec comes into effect following the passing of the Nahec Bill.
