Lost History Foundation has organised a libation ceremony (Mwambo Wa Nsembe Ya Masika) to be held at Botanic Gardens in Zomba.
The libation ceremony which is aimed at thanking God for the harvest will also be spiced up by music performances and traditional dances.
The event comes barely five months after Lost History Foundation also held a libation ceremony (Nsembe Ya Makolo) at its studios in Namiwawa, Blantyre which was aimed at calling upon ancestors and Namalenga for protection in the aftermath of Cyclone Freddy as well as thanksgiving for 2023.
Lost History Foundation Executive Director Conleith Selenje said yesterday that Mwambo Wa Nsembe Ya Masika which will start at Zomba Bus Depot to Botanic Gardens was all about thanking the creator (Namalenga) for the harvest of this year.
“The event is also targeted to inform, teach the people how our ancestors used to thank the creator after harvest and this is why we will offer offerings to the creator, part of every harvest, harvested this year, shall be offered to the creator in thanksgiving,” Selenje said.

He said people should expect a lot.
“People should expect to learn, to see, to witness and get the truth of how our ancestors thanked the creator after every harvest,” Selenje said.
He said there will be a libation on the day and traditional dances stressing that the libation is the centre of the offering whereas the traditional dances and music performances are the climax of the celebration of “our connection to our culture and our celebration of life by the creator”.
“We are there to celebrate culture as well and so, we will do it through traditional dances and music performances,” he said.

Selenje also said that they chose Zomba to host the event because “it has been the centre of history” as well as being the old capital.
According to the poster of the event, people have been asked to bring food that they will share with others, bring part of their harvest in a plate as well as farming tools such as a hoe.
Some of the artists set to perform at the event include Waliko Makhala, Chigo Nyasulu, Agorosso, Ancient Yoga and Joseph Nkasa
