Musicians Lulu and Theresa Phondo have been billed to perform at the 10th edition of the biannual Art in the Park to be held at Four Seasons in Lilongwe from May 9 to 12 2024.
Wildlife Environmental Society of Malawi (Wesm) runs the festival with other partners with the aim of showcasing works of visual artists.
Wesm Chairperson Nick Hall said Thursday that Phondo and Lulu are talented artists that are doing well on the market, hence engaging them to spice up Art in the Park.
“We want more Malawians to patronise the festival this time around and appreciate visual art which is thriving at the moment. It has been quite a journey since we started and we have improved with every edition. We have had artists exhibiting unique art works,” Hall said.
He said having had other artists in the previous editions such as Lawi, Maggie Kadrum and Madalitso Band; they decided to have Lulu and Phondo.

“We want more Malawians to come and discover the great art. Lulu is a magnet when it comes to music and so is Theresa Phondo. This is why we decided to work with them in this edition,” Hall said.
Lulu was not readily available for his comment yesterday but Phondo, said she was looking forward to perform at the event for the second time.
“I am excited, it is another chance for me to connect with the people and share my music,” Phondo said.
Running under the theme ‘People and Environment’, Art in the Park will feature over 40 visual artists.
