Energy Minister Ibrahim Matola has hailed the International Solar Alliance (ISA) for helping Malawi realise its vision of providing clean and renewable energy to all.
He made the remarks in India during the 6th Session of the International Solar Alliance General Assembly.
He said sponsorship of phase 1 of a transformative solar project that is being implemented at Parliament Building in Lilongwe is something Malawi is proud of.
“This installation will not only assist in illuminating Parliament Building and reducing energy bills but also enhance political will on implementation of solar projects and illuminate the path to a more sustainable and energy-resilient Malawi.
“This installation serves as a beacon of hope, demonstrating that, with shared vision and collaboration, we can successfully implement the idea for the ‘One Sun One World One Grid’ initiative that was put forth by the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi,” Matola said.

ISA intends to technically support Malawi in constructing 100 megawatts solar parks.
“To this end, a pre-feasibility study for it has already been conducted. This ambitious undertaking holds the promise of not only meeting our growing energy demand but also significantly reducing our carbon footprint. This is a testament to ISA’s dedication to transforming our nation’s energy landscape. It is also testament to our collective commitment to a greener and more sustainable future,” he said.
