Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) and Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (Mubas) Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to help build capacity for the revenue collection body’s staff.
The agreement will see the higher learning institution equipping MRA staff for enhanced effectiveness and efficiency in revenue collection and management.
Speaking after signing the agreement, MRA Commissioner General John Biziwick said programmes like taxation studies, which the university is offering, will help MRA staff explore different opportunities.
“We did not have any working relations him between MRA and Mubas to be able to advance the interests of [both] parties. So, the MoU now will provide that platform where we can explore taxation issues,” Biziwick said.

He further said, with the agreement, Mubas students with knowledge, skills and qualification in taxation will have a competitive edge for employment at the revenue collection body.
Mubas Vice Chancellor Nancy Chitera rated the agreement signing as timely, saying it will be beneficial for the two entities.
“Entrepreneurs need to be aware of taxation issues. So, apart from building capacity for MRA staff, it is also building capacity for entrepreneurs who would like to broaden their knowledge” Chitera said.
Mubas will start implementing the programme in 2024.
