The seventh edition of the Malawi Sport Awards (MSA) has been moved from Friday to Saturday to accommodate various stakeholders, organisers have said.
The event’s organising committee chairperson, Limbani Matola, said it will be held at Sunbird Livingstonia Conference Centre in Salima.
In a statement issued Tuesday, the organisers described the change as strategic to ensure broader participation.
“The change has been effected to accommodate key stakeholders and ensure inclusive participation in this flagship event that recognises and celebrates sporting excellence in Malawi. All other arrangements remain unchanged,” the statement reads.

Matola, who is also director of planning, marketing and infrastructure services at the Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS), appealed for calm.

“MNCS sincerely regrets any inconvenience this change may cause and appreciates the continued support and cooperation of all partners, nominees and the sporting fraternity,” he said.
He added that Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Alfred Gangata is expected to grace the occasion as guest of honour.
Meanwhile, voting for outstanding athletes, administrators, associations and teams was expected to close yesterday.
This year’s awards will feature a new Hall of Fame category, which has attracted three nominees: Flames legend Kinnah Phiri, netball icon Mary Waya and the late netball coach Griffin ‘Zagallo’ Saenda.

The awards promote excellence, inspire emerging athletes and foster national pride by recognising exceptional contributions to local and international sport.
