Mighty Mukuru Wanderers have disclosed that they are going to challenge Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Competitions and Marketing Committee’s verdict after the side received a similar punishment following the Airtel Top 8 clash against Silver Strikers.
On Wednesday, the committee released a verdict regarding the Airtel quarterfinal tie and Wanderers were served with the same punishment they got at first.
In the latest ruling, Wanderers have been found guilty as charged on all counts and the committee imposed sanctions in respect of each of the charges.
On causing abandonment of the match, the committee resolved to award the match to Silver by a margin of two goals to zero (2-0).
Wanderers have been fined K500,000 on failure to control its supporters and the club shall also be responsible for the costs associated with the repair and restoration of any damaged seats at Bingu National Stadium.

“A preliminary assessment that was undertaken by the stadium authorities established the total cost of the same at K22 million.
“Mighty Mukuru Wanderers Football Club has the liberty to engage and enter into arrangements acceptable to both Fam and the stadium authorities on how to proceed on the verification and restoration process,” the statement reads.
Wanderers have also been found guilty of failing to prevent their supporters from engaging in improper conduct, that their actions brought the game of football, Fam, and the name of the sponsor into disrepute.
For that, they have been fined K2 million.

The verdict follows the hearing sanctioned by the committee after the determination by the Fam’s disciplinary committee that the Competitions Committee erred by making a determination without summoning Wanderers to a hearing.

However, Wanderers Chief Executive Officer Roosevelt Mpinganjira told Times Radio Thursday that the matter would be referred to the team’s lawyers.
“They will advise us on the way forward,” Mpinganjira said.
But the team’s board secretary, Chancy Gondwe, told Wanderers’ Facebook page that the club is not satisfied with what he called the pre-determined ruling and will file an appeal against the same.
“The determination is similar to the one which the same committee pronounced before we sought an appeal. We have decided to appeal to see to it that such issues are properly and fairly resolved in the interest of fair play,” Gondwe was quoted by the Wanderers’ in-house publication.
Meanwhile, the committee has resolved to schedule the Airtel Top 8 return match between Wanderers and Silver to November 25 at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
Grade One referee Godfrey Nkhakananga was slapped with a four-month ban for failure to control the tie between Silver and Wanderers.
Nkhakananga awarded an advantage to Silver, a moment after blowing for a foul against a Wanderers player.
In a flash, substitute Stain Davie restored Silver’s lead with a deft finish after Wanderers’ Gaddie Chirwa had cancelled out George Chiomba’s first half strike.
