Ministry of Youth and Sports has expressed dismay over lack of progress in renovating chairs at Bingu National Stadium (BNS) in Lilongwe after Mighty Mukuru Wanderers were ordered to pay K22 million for causing the damage.
This happened during the fracas that marred the first leg of the Airtel Top 8 Cup at the venue against Silver Strikers.
The ministry’s spokesperson Macmillan Mwale said they are waiting for Football Association of Malawi (Fam) to finalise everything with Wanderers.
“We cannot deal with Wanderers directly and ask for progress. We are dealing with Fam because they are the event’s organiser,” he said.
Mwale said they are hopeful that Fam and Wanderers would speed up the matter as the venue needs to be fit for international matches.

“This is the only venue which is certified to host international matches including World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations qualifying games. As such, we need the venue to be in shape to avoid sanctions when inspectors come,” he said.
Both Wanderers Chief Executive Officer Roosevelt Mpinganjira and Fam General Secretary Alfred Gunda were yet to respond to our questionnaire as we went to press yesterday.
