The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture has promised to act swiftly to renovate Kamuzu Stadium to meet the standards and start hosting elite games.

Spokesperson in the Ministry of Sports Macmillan Mwale made the remarks after Football Association of Malawi (Fam) through its First Instant Body disapproved three major stadiums including Kamuzu in Blantyre, Nankhaka in Lilongwe and Mzuzu in Mzuzu as they failed to meet required standards.
Mwale said the ban will affect a lot of stakeholders including developmental teams hence the ministry’s prompt action to fix the facility.
“It is retrogressive in terms of sports development. If you look at the number of people that use Kamuzu Stadium, we have youth teams apart from the elite teams that use the facility. So, as the ministry, currently, we are working hand in hand with the Kamuzu Stadium management to ensure that we rectify the issues that have been raised,” he said.
Mwale said they had taken note of all areas of concern to ensure that they were fixed before Fam’s First Instance Body reviews the stadium.

“Basically, the ban has to do with sanitation and also the technical benches that we have. So, we believe that once these are fixed, then the facility should be ready for use,” he said.
Recently, both Bullets and Wanderers officials expressed disappointment following Fam’s decision to disapprove Kamuzu Stadium from hosting high-profile matches before the start of the new season.
Both clubs felt that their operational costs would rise as they would be forced to use alternative grounds such as Joyce Chitsulo, in Mwanza for Bullets, and Zomba for Wanderers.
Furthermore, the two giants also fear for reduced revenue.
