NBS Bank plc has doubled its sponsorship package for this year’s Charity Shield to K40 million.
The bank’s chief executive officer Kwanele Ngwenya made the announcement at a press briefing in Blantyre, saying the sponsorship is for three years.
The amount has been increased from last year’s K20 million.
TNM Super League winners and champions of any national cup meet to mark the beginning of the season.

Ngwenya said they have decided to double the package after being impressed with how the shield has been run since they started sponsoring it three years ago.
He said this year’s charity initiative will go towards supporting the education sector by building sanitary facilities in selected schools in the Central Region.
“The Charity Shield is more than a competition as it is a manifestation of our shared vision in our commitment to contribute to the development of Malawi. As we embark on this year’s journey, let us be reminded of the power of partnership and the impact of investment on our communities,” Ngwenya said in his speech at the event.
Football Association of Malawi General Secretary Alfred Gunda hailed NBS for the gesture, saying it would help in taking the shield to another level.

“This is not a mean feat for the sponsorship of the Charity Shield. We would like to reach out to those in need in our societies and the funds will go a long way in achieving this. We are impressed with the impact of the initiative as we have helped in changing the lives of some people in the country. During the past two disasters, we have been together with NBS, as we have supported victims,” Gunda said.
NBS started sponsoring the shield in 2022, bankrolling it with K15 million, before hiking the amount to K20 million last year.
Last year, the Charity Shield match between Bullets and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers realised K20 million which was used to reach out to Tropical Cyclone Freddy survivors in the Southern Region.
