The resignation of the Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) executive committee has stunned the association’s affiliates.
The group’s chairperson Steve Nyadira said they were not targeting individuals but wanted the executive committee to be answerable to its manifesto after noticing that the sport was lagging behind.
“We are surprised with the resignation because they recently announced that we will have an annual general meeting in Mzuzu. We wanted to take them to task over what they promised. They promised sponsorship for the Queens and junior national teams. They also promised sponsorship for national tournaments so that the districts should be active.
“Besides that, we wanted to appreciate how they were managing finances. When you are using public funds you must be transparent and accountable. Sadly, they resigned before we could hear from them. I must also stress that we were not against any individual,” Nyadira said.
Currently, the concerned members are brainstorming and plan to engage Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS).

Nyadira said their stance would be known after consulting the council.
Meanwhile, MNCS Chief Executive Officer Henry Kamata promised to engage Nam affiliates to address the leadership vacuum.
“We will engage the affiliates to chart the way forward. As council it is not our mandate to run sports associations on their behalf, however, our role is to provide support whether technical or financial. The future of Nam is in the hands of the affiliates to rebuild it. We will be meeting the affiliates very soon to hear from them how they intend to move forward,” Kamata said.
President Abigail Shariff, Vice President Junier Bamusi, General Secretary Isaac Chimwala, Vice General Secretary Diana Nkhulembe, Treasurer Agnes Chaima and Vice Treasurer Chauncy Munthali all signed the resignation letter which was addressed to the MNCS CEO on Thursday.
