Mighty Wanderers Coach Bob Mpinganjira has drawn positives from his team’s 1-0 loss to Civil Service United in a friendly match played at Champion Stadium in Mponela, Dowa District, on Sunday.
Chikaiko Batison netted the lone goal that dented Wanderers’ preparations for the Caf Confederation Cup preliminary round, where they will take on Jwaneng Galaxy of Botswana.
The Nomads are also preparing to face Mzuzu City Hammers in an FDH Bank Cup round-of-16 match at Rumphi Stadium in Rumphi District on Thursday.
In a post-match report posted on Wanderers’ Facebook page, Mpinganjira said the friendly match accorded him an opportunity to try different combinations, enhance fitness of his players and give game time to some of his troops.
“It was a good game. Our fans should not be disappointed with the result. Our interest was not necessarily in the result but to utilise the game and try different combinations, help players remain fit and give game time to those who don’t play regularly.

“Our objectives have been met and we have drawn a number of positives from the match despite the loss,” he is quoted as saying.
Wanderers are the only team yet to lose in the 2025 TNM Super League, where they lie second to FCB Nyasa Big Bullets.
Civil Coach Abbas Makawa applauded his charges for having a spirited performance.
“The encounter was more than just a warm-up. I used this friendly match to test new players who have joined the team and others who have not had much game time, and I am convinced with what I saw. The boys responded well,” Makawa told his club’s Facebook page.
