Barely five days after making a call for artists, organisers of Urban Music People (UMP), Chitoliro Productionz, have announced afro-pop musician Onesimus as the first headliner for the 2024 edition dubbed The Evolution.
The festival, which has been on a seven-year break, will be held at Cape Maclear in Mangochi from October 25 to 28.
UMP Festival Spokesperson Marie Thom said Tuesday they were excited to have the award winning on board describing him as “a man of the moment”.
Thom said the festival aligns itself with the theme of attracting top notch artists and that Onesimus’s presence on their radar is a plus for them.
“We just had to get him on board looking at his strides at the moment. He is doing well on the market and it will be great for people to see him perform live at the festival. He will share the stage with other local artists as well as international acts,” she said.

The award-winning musician has been in the limelight having recently dropped a romantic song ‘Controller’, which has won the hearts of the people both in and outside the country including award winning Nigerian artist Rudebwoy.
The artist, who recently also released an Extended Playlist titled I am Strong was not readily available for his comment Tuesday.
UMP began as a mini concert at Grin Bamboo in Blantyre in 2009 before it made strides as Urban Music Party before rebranding to Urban Music People.
The festival which has featured several renowned artists and unearthed talent has in the past been held in venues such as BAT Ground in Blantyre, French Cultural Centre and Blantyre Sports Club.
