The 2023 Pemphero Mphande Short Story Writing competition led by social media influencer Pemphero Mphande prize presentation ceremony will be held on the 15th of February at Golden Peacock in Blantyre.
Mphande confirmed the development on the 14th of February adding that the competition got more entries.
“The response was good and we had better stories in terms of quality than the previous edition,” he said.
Mphande said they had 633 entrants from which the judges managed to nominate 19 stories out of the targeted 21.

“This is better compared to the previous edition where only two were nominated out of the targeted 10,” he said.
The competition in August last year got a boost when Kings Foundation Schools pumped in K12 million.
Now in its third year, the competition this time around lured participants from secondary schools, colleges, and universities in separate categories.
Mphande said the sponsorship will enable more students to partake in the competition.

For tertiary, the winner will walk away with K400,000 whereas second and third positions will receive K300,000 and K100,000 respectively.
The main competition will see the winner walk away with K1 million with the second and third positions receiving K300,000 and K200,000 respectively.
