Malawi women’s football poster girl Tabitha Chawinga made her debut for French side Paris Saint- Germain Feminines as they lost 1-0 at home to serial league champions Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday night.
The striker was straight into the starting line-up just a few weeks after completing her season-long deal from Chinese champions Wuhan Jiangda.
However, Tabitha was unable to save her new club from their first defeat of the season in two matches. She partnered S Baltimore upfront and she was one of the best performers for PSG.
Despite failing to find the back of the net in her debut match, Tabitha was rated 3.8, with the overall best player of the match getting 4.6.
However, the Malawian striker was not readily available for her comment Monday.
Claudine Le Sommer scored the only goal of the match.
Tabitha joined PSG as a replacement for Kadidiatou Diani, who has since moved to Lyonnais.
The Malawian would be hoping to replicate her impressive record in Italy, where she won the golden boot award with 23 goals in 21 matches— becoming the first African female player to achieve that feat.
She has a good record of winning the golden boot award in her debut season in all the countries she played in Sweden, China and Italy. Lyonnais are at the top of the log table with six points from two matches whereas PSG are second with three points from the same number of matches.
PSG went into the match without head coach Gerard Precheur, who left the club on mutual consent just 24 hours before the match.
