Malawi Women’s National Football Team Coach Lovemore Fazili has warned his charges to guard against complacency in the two remaining matches of the 2023 Hollywoodbets Cosafa Women’s Championship underway in South Africa.

The Scorchers started the tournament with a famous 4-3 win over hosts and African champions South Africa at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria on Wednesday to cruise to the top of Group A.
Malawi are now preparing for two crucial assignments against eSwatini Saturday at Dobsonville Stadium before meeting Madagascar at UJ Soweto Stadium on Tuesday.
After Wednesday’s match, the Scorchers went for a recovery session at Wits University football ground Thursday morning.
Fazili said the two matches will be very crucial for his team to qualify for the semi-finals of the tournament.

“We need to exercise caution because eSwatini and Madagascar can surprise us. Winning against eSwatini is our priority and we need to win with a huge margin,” Fazili said.
He said it was also pleasing that all his players took part in the recovery session ahead of tomorrow’s match.
“This means we have no major injury concerns ahead of this match. So we are good to go,” Fazili said.
Scorchers captain Temwa Chawinga, who scored a hat-trick against South Africa, said they will not relent in the remaining matches.

“We have no time to relax. We know that the battle is not over yet. Morale is high in camp and everybody is working hard,” she said.
Temwa also believes that with team spirit, the Scorchers can lay their hands on the competition’s top prize for the first time ever.
The Scorchers have never won the Cosafa Women’s Championship since it started but finished as runners-up during the 2021 edition following a 1-0 loss to Tanzania.
