Malawi Women’s National Football Team, the Scorchers, took time off their busy schedule to have a lifetime experience at Gold Reef City Theme Park in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Sunday.
The tour was organised after the Scorchers qualified for the semifinals of the 2023 Hollywoodbets Cosafa Women’s Championship with a game to spare following two victories in the opening matches.
Malawi were the first team to punch a ticket to the semifinals with six points after beating hosts South Africa 4-3 and eSwatini 8-0.
Football Association of Malawi Executive Member Chimango Munthali, who is the head of delegation, organised the tour.

Munthali said the trip was organised to celebrate the team’s qualification to the semifinals of the Cosafa Women’s Championship.
“After hitting a milestone of qualifying for semifinals in just two games, we thought of taking the girls to places where they can celebrate the milestone in a relaxed environment. This is part of mind regeneration and will help the girls face the week rejuvenated.
“Remember the squad is dominated by young girls who can easily get home sick and, as leaders, we have a responsibility to keep them entertained whilst maintaining our focus on our road to gold,” Munthali said.
Gold Reef City Theme Park is the largest in South Africa and offers entertainment such as thrilling rides.

Coach Lovemore Fazili said it was important for the players to refresh.
“We have crucial matches but sometimes it is important for the players to experience new things. This is part of team building,” Fazili said.
The Scorchers will face Madagascar in their last Group A match at UJ Soweto Stadium today.
