Shayona Cement has provided K1 million to the first ever Women’s All Stars Basketball Tournament set to run from January 26 to 27 at African Bible College (ABC) Blue Gym in Lilongwe.

The handover ceremony took place in Lilongwe Thursday.

Shayona Sales and Marketing Manager Vikram Chopra said the company is proud to be associated with the growth of the sport in the country.

“We want to be the official partner of basketball. We are committed to supporting the people of Malawi. We believe that our partnership will help to take the sport to the next level,” Chopra said.

“Women’s basketball has a lot of potential. The tournament will also promote the growth of women’s football,” Gomani said.

Meanwhile, the Malawi Olympic Committee (Moc) contributed K600, 000 towards the event.

Moc Treasurer Henry Sakala said the support was a direct response to a request from Basmal.

“We have a responsibility to support all our affiliates,” he said.
