Silver Strikers have accused the Super League of Malawi (Sulom) of selective justice.
This comes after the league governing body summoned Silver and coach Pieter de Jongh to a disciplinary hearing which was scheduled for Friday in Lilongwe following incidents that happened during their game against Chitipa United which ended goal-less at Civo Stadium on July 1.
The club is being accused of failing to control actions of its supporters and officials contrary to article 26.2.32 of Sulom rules and regulations and bringing the game of football into disrepute contrary to 26.2.25 of Sulom rules and regulations.
However, Silver have expressed dissatisfaction with the way Sulom handles issues regarding the club.
“Silver Strikers Football Club and pray to Sulom to withdraw the notice of disciplinary hearing against Silver and de Jongh. Suspend hearing of the matter concerning Silver Strikers on incident that happened on 1 July 2023 until all disciplinary matters prior to 1st July, 2023 in the 2023 Super League are football matches are heard and determined to promote equality, equal treatment, impartiality, fair play, integrity and professionalism,” reads part of the petition.
Silver and de Jongh were expected to appear before Sulom’s disciplinary committee Friday. The club as a home team was responsible for all match details whereas the Dutchman ran towards referee Davie Chombo immediately after the final whistle but his intention was not known.
Silver petitioned Sulom to withdraw all the charges against them.
However, Sulom General Secretary Williams Banda was yet to respond as we went to press Friday.
Silver are also challenging Sulom that the body had already made its decision saying the hearing is just a formality.
The letter further states Sulom violated the integrity of the disciplinary hearing process when it posted on its official Facebook page.
According to Silver, there are several examples that have not been concluded by Sulom including the incident that happened during the match involving Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and Tigers at Mpira Stadium.
