The Super League of Malawi (Sulom) will know its fate today as it appears before the Football Association of Malawi’s (Fam) Disciplinary Committee to answer five charges related to defying a stadium safety directive.
The hearing takes place at Nkopola Lodge in Mangochi this Saturday, June 20, with potential outcomes ranging from fines to competition sanctions.
Sulom General Secretary Williams Banda has confirmed the league will attend and present its defence.
“Yes, we have been served with the letter and as Sulom we will sit down and discuss and certainly we will oblige,” Banda said.
The charges stem from Sulom’s decision to schedule an elite league match between Mighty Wanderers and Karonga United at Kamuzu Stadium on April 25, 2026—just two days after Fam prohibited matches at the venue pending facility inspection.

On April 23, Fam issued an explicit directive barring all elite league matches at Kamuzu Stadium until the Club Licensing Committee approved the facility.
Despite this clear instruction, Sulom not only scheduled the match but publicly declared it would proceed regardless of Fam’s decision, effectively challenging the association’s authority.
Fam has levelled five separate offences against Sulom, ranging from failure to support Fam’s governance to non-compliance with association statutes.
Another charge alleges conduct bringing football into disrepute through deliberate undermining of Fam’s governance structures.
